Thanks so much to all of the kind people who have been checking in on my NaNo progress, er well, my lack of it. Here is a little update on how things are going.

Week 1: It started off slow, but by the end of the week, I had pretty well caught up.

Week 2: Did not happen. I completely dropped my NaNoWriMo writing to work on another pressing issue: school. As well as I’d like to do with NaNoWriMo, I knew when I began that my priority had to be my schoolwork. I’ve paid enough for the classes after all. Week 2 was busy as I had two presentations one after the other. Then the weekend was spent working on papers.

Week 3: OK. By now, I’m reassessing why I even started NaNo in the first place. What was I thinking? My biggest goal out of this whole process was to get into a more consistent and daily writing habit. (OK. I admit that the lovely idea of having a finished rough draft of a novel is a plus as well).

So today, I’m seriously considering what I’m going to do from here. I’m only at 10,760 words. I need 50,000 by the end of November. There are only 13 days left! That means I need to write roughly 3,020 words per day for the next 13 days to meet my goal.

So, here’s the plan. This afternoon, I’m going to watch and read all of the NaNoWriMo pep talks I can get my hands on. Then I’m going to start writing and see what I can accomplish. Word Wars, here I come!

Can I do it? I have no idea.

Am I crazy? Quite likely.

But, I’m going to try anyway.

I woke up this morning intent on catching up on my NaNoWriMo word count, but then things started to get crazy. Homework, housework, family, and friends all seemed to need extra attention today.

On top of that, my dog Pearl is pregnant and should be having a puppy any day soon. I’ve been extra worried about her because she is only having one puppy, and it is getting BIG. Insert emergency visit to the veterinarian this afternoon. Don’t worry. All is well for now.

After her appointment, I came home and wrote for two hours along with the Scribblerati NaNoWriMo group. That was good because knowing that other writers were doing the same thing I was at the same time really helped encourage me to just write. If you haven’t heard of it, go check it out.

I’m not quite sure where I’m going with this novel yet, and I keep censoring myself. I’m having a really hard time letting myself just write. Yesterday, I wrote and wrote with no problems, but today, I seem to be having a harder time letting go.

Anyway. Upward and onward, right? I’m a little behind, but I’m still in this till the end. Hopefully, I can catch up tonight and tomorrow. Here are my stats so far:

NaNoWriMo WordCount

Day 1: 0
Day 2: 600
Day 3: 1840

Total: 2440
Goal: 5000

No. It’s not Christmas yet, but tomorrow is the first day of NaNoWriMo Month.

NaMoWriWhat you ask?

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, which is the month of November. It’s also a contest where writers try to write 50,000 words of a novel by the end of the month. It’s all first-draft style of writing. Just get the bare bones down; you can edit later.

How: Write a novel of at least 50,000 words by the end of November
Why: Well, perhaps you’ve gone completely insane like Karen from ModernDayStoryteller. Many thanks to her for joining me in the NaNoWriMo craziness!

This is my first year participating, and I’m finally starting to get a bit nervous and excited. Wish me luck! If you want to be my buddy, I’m listed as WinterWrite.

This is what I’m going to look like this month. Well, except that I’m a girl, and I’m much cuter than Jerry Lewis—at least I like to think so. And I’ll be using my laptop instead of an air typewriter.
