Wondrous Words Wednesday

May 26, 2010

2010/04/WondrousWordsFor book club this month, I read Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale.

The only word I didn’t recognize was:

Gher- a tent-like dwelling for a nomad in Central Asia.

You can see a great picture of one on Flickr.

Have you ever heard of a gher? What new words did you stumble across this week?

This is a weekly event hosted at Bermuda Onion.com. Check it out if you're interested in joining or reading related posts by other bloggers.

(Oops–trying again–just lost my first comment) I think I’ve heard of gher in a Roland Smith novel, but it’s good to see it here again.

I’m not sure I’ve seen a gher before. I’m thinking big tent or something like a yurt. I’m off to flicker to see the picture.
