I found another reading challenge to join!
What: The New York Challenge hosted by Jill at Fizzy Thoughts.
When: February 1st, 2010 — May 15, 2010
The Challenge: Read one book set in NYC and review it.
Each month, there will also be an accompanying mini-challenge. February’s mini challenge is to list 10 things about New York. I’ve only been to NYC for one day.
There was only enough time to see the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building before we had to catch our train. It was a whirl of sightseeing, and it didn’t last nearly long enough!
If I had to do it all again, here is where I would go:
10 Places I would go in New York City
1. Book Expo America (BEA)
2. Guggenheim Museum
3. Morgan Library & Museum: The Jane Austen Exhibit
4. Ellis Island
5. The Metropolitan Art Museum
6. Central Park
7. To see a Broadway Show
8. Times Square
9. To see the Naked Cowboy
10. On a harbor cruise
What about you? Have you ever been to NYC? Have you visited any of these places?
If you could go, what would you want to do?

I’ve just stumbled across your blog and I love the idea of this challenge!
The challenge to list 10 things about NY is a bit unfair as I live here and done most of the things on your list. BEA is a booklover’s dream of a dream. The Morgan is absolutely fantastic – I could get lost there for hours. I got to see the Christmas Carol manuscript this year, actually. It was amazing! I would recommend the NY Public Library on 5th Ave (right by Bryant Park) as well… it is a) a gorgeous structure, b) full of books and c) has exhibits on the history of books and libraries. Oh, and admission is free!
Thanks for commenting Kerry! Yes. I can see how it’s probably a lot different if you live there. Wow. I’ll bet seeing the Christmas Carol manuscript was awesome. Thanks a ton for the recommendations. I’m adding them to my list for the next time I’m there.
good list! I am doing this challenge too and since I live in the city I created a list of my favorite places to read in the city – we both have central park on our lists! I love Ellis Island – even though I have lived in NY most of my life, I only recently went to Ellis Island with visiting friends. I thought it was great and will be going back!
I’ve been to NYC twice, no wait, three times. But it’s been almost 20 years since my last visit. Ellis Island is at the top of my to-do list for my next trip (well, after BEA
).
Thanks for participating!
